Peru signs five new international IP treaties

To date, Peru is a signatory to 19 treaties administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization. The purpose of these treaties is to continue promoting the reactivation and subsequent strengthening of the economy, by putting in place protective measures in the field of intellectual property for the work carried out by entrepreneurs, creators, innovators and inventors.

In 2022, the National Institute of the Defence of Competition and Intellectual Property Protection has signed five international agreements on behalf of the Peruvian state:

• the Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs;
• the Strasbourg Agreement Concerning the International Patent Classification;
• the Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks;
• the Vienna Agreement Establishing an International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks; and
• the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications.
